Figures released by Japan's Ministry of Finance show that Japan's steel exports reached 38.169 million tons in 2008, a 4.6 percent increase over the previous year. Export value increased by 13.1 percent to ¥4.573 trillion.
Export to European Union and Asian countries increased in volume has increased, while volume to the USA deceased.
In terms of monetary value, exports increased to all destinations except the Middle East.
The volume and value of imports increased from Asian countries but decreased from other regions.
