Reports from Japan suggest that the country's Fair Trade Commission may study the planned iron ore venture between BHP Billiton Ltd and Rio Tinto Group for any violations of Japanese antitrust laws.
According to the Nikkei newspaper, Secretary-General Takahide Matsuyama has suggested that the commission may wish to consider effects that may result from the plans, especially as between them the two companies control about 60 percent of the iron ore that Japanese steelmakers buy.
