Argonaut Discovers Zinc, Copper Deposit

Argonaut Resources says a mineral deposit of zinc and copper at Kroombit, about 100 kilometres west of Gladstone, will strongly support the company's plans to establish an open cut mine in the area.

Managing director Graham Ellis says an initial deposit of around 6 million tonnes of zinc and copper has been found at the company's 100 per cent-owned Kroombit deposit in central Queensland.

He says the area was explored for mineral deposits some time ago by Mount Isa Mines.

"We have had this tenement for quite some time, it involves both a mining lease and an exploration area and it was previously mined by very early miners back 100 years ago," he said.

"Then subsequently [it was] drilled to a limited extent in the 1970's and we decided about two years' ago to have another look at it ourselves and carry out a modern drilling program."
