China Minmetals Increases Profit For Ninth Straight Year

China Minmetals Corporation, the country's largest trader of base metals, made a profit of CNY 7.1 billion and return on net assets at 27.84% - its ninth straight annual increase. Operating revenue in the year was CNY 180.9 billion.

Mr Zhou Zhongshu, president of Minmetals, said the company fulfilled its five year targets two years ahead of schedule.

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, the two core businesses in the corporation, realised sales of USD 25.7 billion in 2008, with their combined profits making up 79.5% of the total profit.
