January Copper Exports Fall Sharply For Chile

Figures released by Chile's central bank on Monday suggest that the value of country's copper exports felly by 58 percent in January to $1.491 billion. This was the lowest January figure since 2005 and reflects the sharp fall in copper prices in the global economic slowdown. Nevertheless, the figure was a 21 percent increase on the $1.232 billion worth of copper exported in December.

In January 2008 Chile, the world's largest copper producer, had export revenues of $3.580 billion copper export revenues.
