Mexico's steel manufacturers claim that the USA is to implement a trade protection policy to prohibit the use of Mexican iron and steel materials in infrastructure construction.
The Mexican Iron and Steel Producers Association said that the introduction of this policy violates the North American Free Trade Agreement and World Trade Organization’s relevant provisions of free trade. Mexico's Ministry of Economic Affairs has been requested to intervene in this matter.
The introduction of the policy will result in a sharp fall in Mexico's steel exports to the United States.
