China Shenhua Energy Company Ltd (CSEC), the listed unit of China's largest coal producer, announced earlier this week that it sold 57 million tons of coal in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year rise of 0.5%.
The company said in a statement filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that its coal output in the first quarter of this month totalled 51.8 million tons, up 16.1% from a year earlier.
During the period, Shenhua generated a total of 21.2 billion kWh of electricity, down 10.3% from a year earlier. Sales of electricity also fell by 11% to 19.65 billion kWh.
In March alone, Shenhua's coal output surged 25.5% to 19.20 million tons, while the output of electricity fell slightly to 8.16 billion kWh.
