Evraz Group companies steel output rose by 7.1 percent in 2008, the Russian steelmaker said in a statement on Monday. Output rose from 16.5m tonnes in 2007 to 17.67m tonnes last year. However, fourth quarter output was down by 33.5 percent compared to the previous quarter to 3.25m tonnes.
Full year production of cast iron rose 4.7 percent to 13.26m tonnes; rolled steel increased 5.8 percent to 16.082m tonnes; coke production increased by 33.1 percent to 1.87m tonnes, and pipe products went up by 79.6 percent to 844,000 tonnes.
Evraz's mining companies produced 3.2 percent more iron ore concentrate (3.615m tonnes); coking coal output jumped 2.3 times to 9.065m tonnes, while steam coal production increased 64.5 percent to 4.901m tonnes.
