Change At The Top At Iron Ore Of Canada

A changing of the guard is coming soon at Iron Ore Co. of Canada, the country's biggest iron ore producer that is controlled by the giant Rio Tinto Group and with mines and concentrator in Labrador and shipping port at Sept Îles.

Zoe Yujnovich, a 14-year veteran with Rio Tinto and recently president of Rio Tinto Brazil, becomes IOC president on Feb. 1, succeeding the retiring Terrence Bowles, who has led IOC as president and CEO for the past eight years and has served a total of 36 years with Rio Tinto companies. Yujnovich holds degrees in engineering and business administration.

Bowles was named to the top IOC job in May of 2001 following Rio Tinto’s acquisition of Australia’s North Ltd., which then owned IOC. He moved to IOC after 27 years with QIT Fer et Titanium Inc. in Tracy-Sorel, where he became CEO. He graduated in chemical engineering from Université Laval and later earned an MBA from McGill University.

IOC has annual capacity of 18 million tonnes of iron ore concentrates and markets its production in North America, Europe and Asia.
