BHP Promotes Campbell To Head Up Iron Ore Business

Australian miner BHP Billiton has promoted Chris Campbell to the post of president of the firm’s iron ore business. Since 2009 Campbell has been working on the merger of BHP’s iron ore business in Weat Australia’s Pilbara region with that of rival miner Rio Tinto and will be marketing iron ore supplies from BHP’s share of the deposit. He will also run the company's Brazil Samancor partnership with the Brazilian company, Vale.

The announcement follows Rio Tinto’s decision to appoint fluent Mandarin speaker Ian Bauert to head up its China business last week.

Both miners are involved in talks with Chinese customers to decide a benchmark price for iron ore supplies, talks which some analysts believe could lead to a 50 per cent price hike.
