Minmetals May Resume Output At Century Mine

Minmetals may restart zinc concentrate output at its Century mine in Queensland as early as Tuesday, the company said on Monday. The effects of Cyclone Olga last week forced the company to shut its export terminal and evacuate staff after the Karumba region was hit by gusts of over 100km per hour. Although port operations suffered no significant damage concentrate production was halted. Ore mining was not interrupted by the storm.

A review of the operations was to take place on Monday.

Last week Minmetals said it expects the mine's zinc-in-concentrate yield to rise 38 percent to 500,000-510,000 tonnes this year after technical problems caused a fall in output in 2009.
