Kanshani Copper Rules Out More Job Cuts

Kansanshi Copper Mines, Zambia's largest single copper mine by output, won't be cutting any more jobs because the reduced costs of mining inputs have stabilized operations at the mine, the Daily Mail of Zambia reported on Monday.

The state-owned paper quoted the company's Environmental Manager, Richard Zyambo, as saying the mine had reviewed all its business operations to protect core activities and financial resources in a bid to improve its cost profile and emerge stronger when global economic conditions improve.

"We do not foresee a situation like on the Copper belt where some mines are being put on care and maintenance. Our future is certain," Zyambo was quoted as saying.
Kansanshi, owned by Toronto-listed First Quantum Minerals Ltd is targeting production of 244,000 metric tons of copper this year compared with 215,314 tons produced last year.
