South Korea's Steam Coal Imports Down In January

According to customs statistics, South Korea’s steam coal imports in January fell by 5% MoM to 6.4 million tonnes, however some 3.5 million tonnes were shipped from Australia in January, hitting a record monthly total.

Coking coal imports in January fell by 32% from the previous month to 1.3 million tonnes compared with 1.9 million tonnes in the same month last year. Shipments of coking coal to South Korea from Australia have shown a much sharper decline in January, slipping to 0.75 million tonnes from 1.3 million tonnes in December, representing a 46% decrease YoY.
