Global Zinc Output Falls In January

According to a data released by the International Lead & Zinc Study Group, global zinc mine production declined by nearly 12% YoY to 994,000 tonnes during January 2009 as compared to the same period a year ago.

At the same time the world refined zinc market was in a surplus of 40,000 tonnes.

In January 2009, the total world refined zinc consumption stood at 893,000 tonnes compared to 912,000 tonnes a year ago. However the world refined zinc consumption has increased as compared to December 2008. In December 2008 world refined zinc consumption was 879,200 tonnes.

Meanwhile, as per ILZSG data, the world refined zinc production during January 2009 has reported a slight decline of about 0.69% MoM to 933,000 tonnes. During December 2008 the world refined zinc production stood at 939,500 tonnes.
