Ukraine Coal Production Falls 13 Per Cent In Q1

Ukraine reduced coal production approximately 12.8% year-on-year in January-April, to 23.486 million tonnes, the Coal Ministry told Interfax.

Coking coal production fell by 16.9%, to just over 8.06 million tonnes, and steam coal fell 10.5%, to 15.43 million tonnes.

Coal production was still 7.1% above the target set by the Coal Ministry, including 20.5% above for coking coal and 1.3% for steam coal.

State-owned coalmines reduced production 11.4% year-on-year in January-April, to 13.46 million tonnes, including 3.243 million tonnes of coking coal, down 9.5%, and 10.218 million tonnes of steam coal, down 12%.

April coal production as a whole fell by 15.6% year-on-year, to 5.625 million tonnes. Coking coal was down 24%, to 1.797 million tonnes and steam coal fell by 11.1%, to 3.829 million tonnes.
