China's Titanium Imports Drop

China’s imports of titanium ores and concentrates imports dipped in the month of March 2008 according to figures just released by the Chinese government. According to the survey the amount of imported titanium ores and concentrates reduced by 37.6% year-on-year to 87,589 tonnes in March 2008 compared with 140,371 tonnes in March 2007; the total value of titanium imports decreased by 6.3% year-on-year to USD13.809 million.

Of the main sources for China’s titanium only Gambia saw any significant increase, up by over 1500% year-on-year, while both Vietnam and Australia saw big decreases in their exports of titanium ores and concentrates to China, Vietnam by 39%, Australia by 46%.

The details by country were as follows:
1. Vietnam - 31,858 tonnes (52,012 tonnes in March 2007)2. Australia - 32,751 tonnes (60,523 tonnes in March 2007)3. Gambia 7,381 tonnes (514 tonnes in March 2007)4. India - 6,673 tonnes (19, 675 tonnes in March 2007)5. Sri Lanka - 2,945 tonnes (3,392 tonnes in March 2007).
