Low Carbon Ferrochrome Prices Continue To Rise

Low carbon ferrochrome prices continued to rise this week amid tight supply and soaring raw material costs.

Current import prices of low carbon ferrochrome in Japan have soared to USD 5 to USD 5.10 per lb on a CIF basis in the second quarter and European steel makers are reported to have paid USD 5 per lb of low carbon ferrochrome in April.

South Africa’s Samancor's Ferrometal has halted its production following an explosion in February with the plant estimated to be out of production for five months. In addition South Africa has cut its electricity supply to the metal industry.
